Transitioning your puppy into your home

We just have to say it: The first week or so with a new puppy are going to be tricky! Frustration is to be expected, but keep in mind that your puppy is only a baby, it is learning, and in the beginning, it will be confused and even lonely. Common concerns from brand new puppy owners are barking at night and timidness, and we want you to prepare and expect these things while also remembering that your puppy is getting used to a new normal without litter mates, but before you know it will be enthusiastically part of your family! Below are some tips to make this transition as stress free as possible for the pup while also taking some of the weight off your shoulders.

Basic training and commands

First and foremost, we want to emphasize the importance of positive reinforcement! Your puppy will learn the quickest when it is rewarded for good behavior, never punished for making mistakes. This being said, using a stern voice rather than baby talk and coaxing during training is key! Remember that you are in charge, but also be gentle. I know, it is hard to stick with that balance while keeping your patience, so we’ve put some helpful guidelines and resources below.
